Queenstown supermarket self checkout

Saw this on my Christmas trip to Queenstown (New Zealand)

Supermarket self checkouts! New Zealand yet again, innovating in the EFTPOS market space!

The Safeway at QV has them too, I'm not sure if I would call them an innovation. The voice over is inconsistent with the button labels on screen, you can't scan an item until the scale has detected you put the last one in the bag, you can't change bags once one is filled up without it screaming out warnings at you.

I've heard similar reports from others but you're actually the first to reply on my blog :)

The entire thing is a little tongue in cheek in regards to New Zealand innovating in EFTPOS technology, but you have to admit it is innovation (even though it's real buggy). A complete change in style in how we pay for groceries.
